Welcome to our final Stella News for 2025.

Dear Parents and Carers,
As we enter the final week of Term 4 and begin to look toward the Christmas season, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to every family in our Stella Maris community. It has been a year filled with learning, growth, connection, and remarkable achievement, and I am deeply grateful for the partnership we share with you in nurturing the development and wellbeing of our young women.
This past fortnight has been a particular highlight, with our Sunset Series celebrations offering a truly spectacular display of performing arts talent. From music to drama to dance, our students’ artistry has been nothing short of inspiring — a testament not only to their gifts but also to the dedication, expertise, and passion of our performing arts staff who nurture these talents so beautifully. We brought these celebrations to a joyful close with our Fig Day Out on Wednesday evening, an event that captured the vibrancy, energy, and spirit of our Stella community. These occasions remind us of the power of creativity and the joy that comes when students are encouraged to shine.
This Sunday, 30 November, marks the beginning of Advent — a season of anticipation, hope, and meaningful preparation. Advent invites us to pause amid the busyness and reflect on the light we await: the joy of Christ’s birth and the promise of peace it brings. These weeks remind us of the simple yet profound gifts of faith, community, and gratitude.
As we look back on the year, we do so with immense pride. Our students have flourished academically, artistically, culturally, and across a wide range of sporting pursuits. Their creativity has lit up our stages and classrooms; their determination has driven their studies; and their spirit has carried them onto courts, fields, and into competitions with courage and grace. Just as inspiring has been their commitment to service and outreach — from supporting our Good Samaritan ministries and local parish initiatives, to participating in social justice campaigns, fundraising efforts, environmental projects, and practical acts of compassion for those in need. Each achievement — large or small, academic or altruistic — is a testament to their dedication and to the steadfast support of families and staff who walk alongside them.
To our families, thank you for your trust, your encouragement, and your involvement throughout the year. Whether supporting learning from home, attending events, or contributing quietly behind the scenes, your presence strengthens the fabric of our community and enriches the experience of every student.
As we prepare to close the school year next week, I wish each of you a Christmas filled with the peace and love of Christ. May Advent help us slow our pace, open our hearts, and prepare for the joy of Christ’s coming. May this Christmas bring moments of connection, gratitude, and renewal, and may the year ahead be rich in promise, growth, and grace for our whole Stella community.
With gratitude and every blessing,

Sustainability in Practice
by David Ford and Violet Warner
Mission prefects, Bronte S and Eleni H have taken on a composting initiative that they hope will inspire a generation of Stella students. Our school maintenance leader, Arthur, built two enclosed outdoor compost containers that the prefects are using to break down materials that would normally be thrown into rubbish bins.
“We are starting small using the maintenance team's green waste, and Canteen food scraps. Once we get into the full swing of composting, we hope to get every Stella student separating their food waste and using the right materials to add to the worms,” Eleni said.
Both Bronte and Eleni introduced the worms to their new Stella home and are hopeful they will love their surrounds and hungrily consume Stella’s food and garden waste.
Bronte added, “we are hoping to create a compost club next year with students that are keen to get involved in this project. We will be asking all year levels to get involved in this if they are keen."
Both Eleni and Bronte are happy the Northern Beaches Council are trialling food composting bins and will be researching how best to recycle waste at their school. Well done Bronte and Eleni, alongside the other student leaders, for introducing this great initiative.
Visual Arts News

This Monday our Year 9 Visual Arts class was very fortunate to have a full morning of acrylic painting here in our new art rooms. Meredith Rasdall, who is a Northern Beaches Artist and Educator, guided our students through the processes of landscape painting using images of the Northern Beaches to provide inspiration for the students' paintings.
Meredith guided our students through a range of techniques, including exploring colour mixing on different backgrounds, experimenting with credit card painting as a palette knife, chalking over blackboard surfaces, and painting around shapes to create striking black outlines in their landscapes. The paintings created by our students were outstanding.
It was such a great opportunity to create and spend some extended time experimenting and creating. Our lovely Year 9 students were fully engaged in the process and were both encouraging and complimentary toward their peers. Meredith was very impressed with the girls' talents, their concentration and even with their clean up!
That's a wrap on our Sunset Series!

A huge congratulations to Ellie F (Year 9) and Amelia M (Year 8) who have been honoured with the NSWCCC Blues Award for their remarkable sporting achievements in 2025.
The NSWCCC Blues Award is a highly prestigious recognition, presented to students who have demonstrated excellence and competed at an elite level in their chosen sport. Ellie and Amelia will be formally acknowledged at the CSNSW Sport Awards Ceremony, held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday 2 December.
Ellie F has been awarded her Blue in the sport of touch football. She has had an amazing year, representing Stella at the NSWCCC, NSW All Schools and Australian All Schools Championships. Ellie was part of the NSW All Schools team, where she played a starring role in the grand final win against Queensland, to take out the National title. Ellie was also named in the Australian Touch Football merit team. Along with her success in touch football, she also had a very successful year in athletics, winning medals in the sprint events at CGSSSA, NSWCCC and NSW All Schools.
Amelia has been awarded her Blue in the sport of cross country. She had a fantastic season, representing Stella at all levels in cross country, winning medals at the CGSSSA, NSWCCC, NSW All Schools and Australian All Schools Championships. She placed second in Australia in the U14 event! Amelia also had a great year in athletics, with success in the distance events at all levels. She has been selected to represent NSW at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships, which will be held in Melbourne next week!
Congratulations Ellie and Amelia! We are very proud of you!

Good luck to Elisabeth P, Ellie F and Amelia M who will represent NSW at the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in Melbourne next week. Elisabeth will be competing in the discus, Ellie in the 100m and relay, and Amelia in the 3000m. Congratulations on being selected to compete at such a high level of competition!
It was a busy week for our cricketers last week! On Tuesday, the Stella cricket team competed in the CGSSSA Cricket Championships at Nolan Reserve. It was a fun day of cricket, with the team enjoying playing against competitive teams from schools such as Monte, Santa Sabina and Mount Saint Benedict. The team had a great day and it was great preparation for the NSWCCC Cricket Girls Cup.
This is the second year that Stella has competed in the NSWCCC competition, and it was so fantastic to see the improvement from last year! Stella had a strong win against St Joseph’s in round one, moving onto a tough round two game against Holy Spirit Bellambi. The Stella team put on a good score when batting, and the Holy Spirit team had to work hard to chase the runs. However, in the end, Holy Spirit took the win with just three balls to spare.
Congratulations to all members of the Stella team on a great couple of days of cricket: Saoirse F, Teaghan F, Gracie B, Zoe V, Ouvea M, Emily C, Cara F, Maya H, Taylor P, Amelia J, Neve K.
The CGSSSA Touch Championships were held at Macquarie University Sport Fields on Wednesday 26 November. The conditions were challenging for a day of touch football… extreme heat and strong winds, followed by an intense thunderstorm! The Stella teams coped incredibly well with the tough conditions and high level of competition!
Our junior teams had a good day making their way through to the semi finals, where they had a close loss to Woolwich, finishing in 3rd place overall.
The open team were unstoppable all day! They went through the round games undefeated, and had a strong win in the semi final against Mount St Benedict. We were all set and confident for the grand final against Monte, but a huge storm rolled in and the game had to be abandoned. Both teams were named joint champions for the day.
Congratulations to all members of both teams:
Junior:🥉 Amelia B, Ania M, Ann M, Ava S, Beatrix B, Bella R, Emily C, Melba M, Siena A, Stella B, Zoe A, Zsa Zsa B
Open: 🥇Amali E, Ana T, April U, Charlotte B, Ellie F, Giselle B, Kayla A, Kayla R, Lara M, Matisse F, Mia L, Summer B

The CGSSSA Tennis Championships were held at North Parramatta on Friday 14 November. Stella had a large and strong team competing at this event. All players had a fantastic day and played some exceptional tennis.
Special mention to our junior doubles pair: Ella L and Zoe N who finished 3rd overall; and to our intermediate team: Filippa S, Alex W, Georgia B and Sophia C who finished in 5th place in the championship event.
Well done to all members of the team: Orla C, Maisy S, Zoe B, Beatrix B, Tigerlily R, Sophia C, Alex W, Harriet P, Filippa S, Maya H, Ella L, Zoe N and Georgia B.
Well done Ella C (Year 10) who has had a fantastic year in volleyball! Ella has been playing volleyball for almost five years, starting when she was living in Hong Kong. Since coming to Australia she joined a local competition and has now progressed up to the highest levels! She played in the U18 State Championships this year and has joined the NSW Youth Indoor program. Well done Ella!
Congratulations to Hannah L, Isla S and Jamie B who played in the NSW State Championships last week. Their team won the gold medal – making them the 2025 U14 Girls State Champions! Isla and Hannah have now been selected in the State Indoor Hockey team and will play at the National Championships in January.

Flying 11 NSW State Championships
At the beginning of November, three Stella students: Daisy F (Year 9), Laila H (Year 8) and Alana H (Year 8) competed in Round One of the Flying 11 NSW State Championships on Pittwater.
They had great conditions on the Saturday and completed two races. However windy conditions on the Sunday made racing tricky and only one race was completed.
It was Laila’s first big sailing event, Alana’s first event as a skipper in a Flying 11 and Daisy’s first event in the Flying 11 Open fleet.
All three girls sailed amazingly over the weekend and are looking forward to competing in the second round at the end of February at Georges River.
During late December and early January, Alana is heading up to Belmont, Lake Macquarie, for a week to compete in the Flying 11 National Championships.
This year has seen remarkable growth, participation, and achievement in Stella sport. With almost 2,000 student registrations in various competitions and development sports, it has definitely been a successful year in sport! From impressive team performances to inspiring individual efforts, our students have consistently shown determination, resilience, and the true spirit of fair play.
We are incredibly proud of every student who has participated, whether you competed, trained hard, supported your teammates, or tried a new sport for the first time. Your enthusiasm and commitment have helped create a vibrant and inclusive sporting culture throughout the school.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to our dedicated coaches, teachers, and parents. Your encouragement, time, and hard work behind the scenes make all of these opportunities possible, and your support plays a vital role in the success of our sports program.
As we celebrate this fantastic year in Stella sport, we are already looking forward to another exciting and successful year of sport in 2026!

As we wrap up the year, it’s impossible not to be moved by the extraordinary generosity of the Stella community during the Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal. What began as a request for support quickly grew into something remarkable: a room transformed into a stuffed Aladdin’s Cave of kindness, filled to the brim with essential items, treats, and thoughtful gifts.
Thanks to the overwhelming response from students, families, and staff, we were able to prepare 10 additional boxes for refugee families in our local community. These people face a double disadvantage due to their citizenship status and are unable to access even the most basic services, including concession transport. These hampers will offer not only practical support, but a message of dignity, solidarity, and hope at a time when it is most deeply needed.
Thank you, Stella, for once again showing what compassion in action truly looks like.
A big shout out of thanks to Ms Abbott and Mrs Hausmanns and their junior Religion classes for doing the collating and packing of the hampers throughout the week.
